Two-time Grand Slam runner-up, Vera Zvonareva of Russia has withdrawn from the 2013 Australian Open because of a right shoulder injury.
Vera also missed the U.S. Open this year because of a viral illness and the French Open with the same shoulder injury.
Vera posted on her website Dec. 21, “Hi my dear friends and fans! As to my dissappointment i will have to miss the beginning of the tennis season due to my injury (((
Im doing good but just not enough to be ready at 100% ! and i need it to be able to compete at the highest level! I will stay a little more patient for now and hope to see you all very very soon!!!”
Ranked as high as No. 2 but now 49th, Vera lost the 2010 Wimbledon final to Serena Williams and that year’s U.S. Open final to Kim Clijsters
The Australian Open begins Jan. 14 in Melbourne.
