No. 1 seed, Caroline Wozniacki, served up a double bagel to Kai-Lung Chang in U.S. Open action today.
Wozniacki has lost only two games through the first two rounds. So far she has proven she deserves the No. 1 seeding.
Wozniacki is considered by many to be the favorite in the women’s draw this year, having lost in the final in last year’s U.S. Open. And the world No. 2 certainly showed few holes in her game against Chang, clinching a one-sided 6-0 6-0 victory.
The opening service game of the match saw Wozniacki taking control, breaking her opponent’s serve at her second attempt. Perhaps driven by memories of last year’s final defeat to Kim Clijsters, the 20-year-old Dane looks determined to make her mark in the tennis world.
Wozniacki has yet to win a Grand Slam title, but her genuine strength off either side will surely see her go far once again in New York, where she raced through the first set in 22 minutes. A dream match for Chang, from Chinese Taipei, was rapidly becoming a nightmare where her goal became to take a single game off her formidable opponent, a goal which went unachieved.
Wozniacki repeated her authoritative start to the set in the second, breaking for the fourth consecutive time to break the spirit of Chang. A fifth and sixth promptly followed, handing Wozniacki an effortless passage into round three.
It was Wozniacki’s second double-bagel career match.
