The Women’s Final at the 2012 French Open has been determined. No. 2 seed, Maria Sharapova of Russia, and No. 21 seed, Sara Errani of Italy, each won their semifinal matches on Thursday.
Maria gained her final berth by overpowering No. 4 seed, Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 6-3. Maria has lost only one set in the entire tournament, and that one was a tiebreak (5-7) against Klara Zakopalova in the 4th round. Otherwise, no opponent has scored more than three games in a set against her, which does not bode will for Sara in the final on Saturday.
Sara fought her way into the final by defeating No. 6 seed, Samantha Stosur of Australia in a seesaw match, 7-5, 1-6, 6-3. Sara has had three 3-set matches, so has had a much tougher time getting through.
Maria and Sara have not played each other before. This should make for a very interesting match up on Saturday.
