Federer usually has a few easy matches en route to a Slam. Sometimes it’s one or two, as in the French, when he had one easy match against Gael Monfils, and technically, the final was pretty easy too.
Already, Federer has beaten Arnaud Clement, someone that he hasn’t lost to in years. Today, Roger faced Jurgen Melzer, this year’s semifinalist at the French, and he just cruised to an easy 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 win. Roger was broken early in the first set, but broke back twice and took that set, then broke twice in the second and third sets. Melzer tried to come into net, but Roger was moving well, striking the ball well, and Melzer never got into the match to pressure Federer. Still, a fourth round finish at Wimbledon has Melzer playing good Slam tennis after years of indifferent results.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who has a 3-3 head-to-head with Benneteau, started off quick, winning the first set, 6-1. He’s taken the second set, 6-4. He and Benneteau are on serve early in the third.
Surprisingly, Brands has taken the first set, 6-4, over Berdych. They are on serve early in the 2nd set.
Djokovic is up next to play Hewitt.
