Today, seeds played quite well, with only one seed, Viktor Troicki, losing. Troicki lost to Alejandro Falla, the player that nearly knocked out Federer.
Speaking of Federer, he beat Falla’s Colombian compatriot, Santiago Giraldo. Federer lost his serve 3 times, which was a bit sloppy on his part, but at least he broke 7 times to make this match not that close.
Gael Monfils (seeded 7th) played a close match, but still won in straight sets against the talented Bulgarian, Grigor Dmitrov. Mardy Fish, seeded in the top ten for the first time (eighth seed), took full advantage winning over Tobias Kamke of Germany easily. Fish lost serve just once but broke 7 times.
Tomas Berdych had an easy win over a qualifier, Romain Jouan, showing he has recovered from the match against Djokovic where he retired (at least, recovered for now).
Gasquet, the 13th seed, had a good win as well, over Sergey Stakhovsky, in straight sets.
Tipsarevic, the 20th seed, had a fairly easy win over a French qualifier in straight sets.
Dolgopolov, the 22nd seed, and Stepanek, the 23rd seed, also won in straight sets.
Marin Cilic, the 27th seed, took advantage of a nervous performance by Ryan Harrison, who had opportunities to serve for the second and third set, but wasn’t able to come through as Cilic won in straight sets.
Michael Llodra, the 29th seed, had to play 5 sets to beat Victor Hanescu, whose ranking used to be much higher. Marcel Granollers, the 31st seed, won in 3 close sets over the “X” man, Xavier Malisse.
A few five setters. Juan Carlos Ferrero needed 5 sets to topple Spaniard, Pablo Andujar. Dudi Sela, of Israel, also needed 5 to beat Thomaz Bellucci. Falla, as mentioned earlier, won in 5 over Troicki. Llodra won in 5 over Hanescu.
Two players that haven’t seen much action played each other. Ivo Karlovic beat Fernando Gonzalez in three close sets.
