Serena Williams is at it again, and it is getting old. She withdrew last week from the Nike Clash of Champions exhibition March 8 in Eugene, Ore. It was going to be the first time she had played publicly since July. She has been out with a still mysterious foot injury for which she has given varying explanations.
Serena says she is planning to return to the tour in mid-May. She had her walking boot taken off sometime in the past few weeks, and hopes to be back on the practice court soon. “My foot feels good and I’m starting to train right away, and I intend to be back for the French Open,” Williams told the New York Post. If Williams, who is currently ranked No. 11, doesn’t come back until Roland Garros, she’ll see her ranking drop somewhere out of the Top 17, as she is defending points at Rome and Madrid.
While it would be good to see her back on the court, I for one, am not holding my breath.
