No. 3 seed, Serena Williams of the USA injured an ankle during her first-round match at the Australian Open, but she doesn’t expect it to keep her from playing in the rest of the tournament.
Serena needed medical attention after turning her ankle at 4-0 in the first set in her match against Edina Gallovits of Romania. But she said that as long as she’s alive, she expects to continue playing.
“I’ve been injured before,” Serena said, according to ESPN. “I’ve played this tournament with so many injuries and was able to come off pretty on top. So for me it’s just another page and a great story to tell the grandkids one day.”
Although the injury could be a factor for the rest of the tournament, it didn’t appear to have a major impact on the match. Serena won the first point after receiving treatment, then dominated the second set on the way to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
