In a battle of seeded players, No. 4 seed, Agnieszka Radwanska had a surprisingly easy 4th-round win over No. 13 seed, Ana Ivanovic in the 2013 Australian Open, 6-2, 6-4.
Radwanska has not lost a match yet this season, and is 13-0, off to a great start.
After the match, Radwanska said: “I think I play very good, especially that I think I was keeping the same level from the beginning till the end. That’s why I was able to close this match in two sets.”
Ivanovic responded: “Obviously I’m disappointed. I really feel I was mis-timing a lot of balls in the first set. I started playing better in the second set, but she played a good match. She’s a really tough player.”
Radwanska will next play no. 6 seed, Li Na who defeated No. 18 seed, Julia Goerges 7-6(6), 6-1.
In other 4th round action, No. 2 seed, Maria Sharapova was an easy winner over No. 43 ranked Kirsten Flipkens 6-1, 6-0. Sharapova has lost only five games in four matches, which is a record for the Australian Open through four rounds. The previous record was in 1989 when Steffi Graf conceded only eight games in her opening four matches, when she won the second of her three straight titles in Melbourne. Monica Seles also matched that eight game number twice.
Sharapova will now meet fellow Russian, No. 19 seed Ekaterina Makarova who was a straight-sets upset winner over No. 5 seed, Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-4.
