The last time Andy Murray played Stanislas Wawrinka, Switzerland’s number 2 and flag-bearer for his country this year, it was 2009 in the fourth round.  2009 was the first year that the Wimbledon roof made its appearance, and this was the first men’s match that the roof was used.  2009 happened to be one of the driest for Wimbledon so the roof didn’t get that much of a workout.  Murray has played the most matches under the roof, with 5 matches experience.  His last time was a loss, only a mere few weeks ago in the finals of Wimbledon.

While Federer looked a little shaky in his opening round and Falla was somewhat inspired, the opposite was true in this match.  Murray looked fairly sharp in this match while Wawrinka looked a bit off.  The combination lead to many numerous break chances.  Murray had chances to break in the first set early on, though Wawrinka saved the early break.  But, over time, it wasn’t enough as Murray broke in the first set, then two more breaks in the second set.

Unlike how Murray played a few weeks ago where finesse was the key, this time around, Murray opted for a bit more power, forgoing the slice he used to great effect.  Short balls down the middle were met with force.  And, intriguingly enough, Lendl was not in the booth, so he may be taking time off to let Murray run his own affairs this time around.  However, Roger Federer was in the stands to support his teammate, Stan Wawrinka.  Murray said he was happy to see Federer and compared it to special occasions when former greats would come out to watch.

The final score was a tidy 63 63.

Due to the rain, many of the matches didn’t get a chance to start.  Djokovic was supposed to be one of the earliest matches on, but his match was called due to rain a 7-all in the first set tie break against Italian, Fabio Fognini.  Fognini did claim the set once they got back on court, but Djokoivic found the range and took the second set 6-2 and looks comfortable at 2-1 in the second, up a break.  The rain has caused the grass to be slippery much like it was a few weeks ago and players have gone down numerous times.   Rain is expected throughout the week, which is a challenge given how far behind they are currently.

David Ferrer is about to finish his match over Canadian, Vasek Pospisil 64 and up 53 in the second.  Kei Nishikori is up 76, 5-all to Bernard Tomic.  Go Soeda took the first set over Baghdatis 76, and it’s early in the second set.  Tsonga and Belluci have split sets.  Bellucci took the first set in a tiebreak.  Tsonga took the second set 64.  On serve in the third set.
