Today marks 3rd round action in Monte Carlo and the Spaniards are having a great day. Rafael Nadal, despite his prowess on clay, has apparently never double-bageled an opponent. He came close to doing this in his route over German, Michael Berrer, up 6-0, 4-0 in less than an hour. Berrer managed to win a game and the result was still a rather easy 6-0, 6-1 win.
People wondered if Nadal was ready to dominate on clay again. Right now, it’s really too early to tell, but certainly, if the lopsided scores are any indication, Nadal is back in his comfort zone.
In the only major upset of the day, Spaniard Albert Montanes beat 4th seed, Marin Cilic, 6-4, 6-4. 6th seed Fernando Verdasco needed 3 sets to beat 10th seed Tomas Berdych. 11th seed, David Ferrer, beat 8th seed, Ivan Ljubicic, 6-0, 7-6. Currently, Juan Carlos Ferrero is serving at 5-1 over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the first set. This is a very lopsided first set.
