Unlike the surprise loss by Federer yesterday, both Andy Roddick and Rafael Nadal won quarterfinal matches.  Roddick has never played Nicolas Almagro, but apparently found easy work, winning 6-3, 6-3.  Nadal appeared to have a tougher challenge in Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.  Tsonga had a chance to break early, but wasn’t able to do it while Nadal played some of his best tennis this year in a 6-3, 6-2 win.

The two meet each other in the semifinals.

Tomorrow, Robin Soderling plays Mikhail Youzhny in a rematch of the Rotterdam final from a few weeks ago.  Fernando Verdasco takes on Tomas Berdych, who upset Roger Federer in the fourth round.

Federer blamed his loss on not having good rhythm on his strokes.
