It’s back to the beach for cutie pie Maria Sharapova after she was beaten out of the 2008 French Open in the 4th round.

It was a hard fought match against 13th seed and fellow Russian, Dinara Safina. Maria won the 1st set 7-6 in a tiebreak that went 8-6. Maria was up 5-2 in the second set when she was broken by Safina pushing the match into a another tiebreak. Maria was up 4-2 in the tiebreak before Safina started mixing up her shots, pushing Maria around the court. Maria lost that tiebreak 7-5. That apparently broke the spirit of Maria who then lost the 3rd and final set, 2-6.

So I was right in my previous post “Maria Sharapova is squeaking by” when I said Maria had to play much better to win her first French Open. She played hard, but it was not enough.

So Maria has a little time to head to the beach. However, not too much time. Wimbledon begins June 23 which is just three weeks away. Wimbledon is Maria’s favorite tournament because of all the tradition and fan excitement in London. Hopefully she will put on a good show there!
