Serbian cutie pie, Ana Ivanovic, is through to the 3rd round of the 2009 French Open after a decisive 6-1, 6-2 win over Tamarine Tanasugarn.
Ivanovic started off with a somewhat close match against No. 44 ranked Sara Errani of Italy. Errani took the 1st set to a tie-break, which Ivanovic won 7-3. Ivanovic then settled down to business, closing out the final set 6-3. Final score: 7-6 (7-3) 6-3.
Ivanovic then faced No. 52 ranked Tamarine Tanasugarn of the USA. Ivanovic was all business in this match, winning easily in two sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Ivanovic will now face No. 35 ranked Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic. Even though the opponents get tougher as the tournament progresses, Ivanovic should be able to handle Benesova and make the 4th round.
Ivanovic is the defending champion of the French Open. In 2008 she defeated the now No. 1 ranked Dinara Safina 6-4, 6-3 for the championship. Ivanovic was also a finalist in 2007. She seems to feel at home on the clay courts. She should make a good showing again this year.
