It still helps to have a big serve, even on clay. John Isner had a relatively routine win, 6-2, 6-4. Ouanna had a chance to break back at 4-2 down, but was unable to break. Isner had a chance for a double break, but didn’t convert. Ouanna had a hard time returning serve which makes you realize that the best pros in the world not only hit the ball well, they have to see the ball well too.
The match barely concluded before the skies began to pour. Belgrade is now very wet.
Yesterday, Sam Querrey beat Evegeny Korolev, 6-3, 6-4, so both Americans are still in the tournament.
Querrey next plays Andreev, a tough customer on clay. They are 1-1, head to head, both matches played on hard courts.
Isner plays Richard Gasquet next who, like Ouanna, is another Frenchman, the last one in the tournament now.
Troicki plays Wawrinka in another quarterfinal. Djokovic is still scheduled to play the last Italian in the tournament, Fabio Fognini. If Djokovic wins, he will face the winner of wildcard Krajinovic and Argentinian Horacio Zeballos.
Matches are ongoing in Munich and Estoril.
