Djokovic had to wait a day to beat David Ferrer as rain washed out Sunday’s play, with Djokovic up a break and 3-1 in the first. The extra day didn’t do the Spaniard much good as he won only one more game in the first set, to lose 6-2. Djokovic then won the second set, 6-4.
The first Masters event post US Open started Sunday in Shanghai. This marks the return of Roger Federer to play. He’s not played since the US Open. Juan Martin del Potro was expected to play Shanghai but withdrew due to injury, partly caused by not having played much this year. He claims his wrist is fine, but just the wear and tear of the tour.
Tsonga is back again. Last week, he played Tokyo but lost to Bangkok finalist, Jarkko Nieminen. This week, in Shanghai, he beat Fernando Verdasco.
