Russian cutie pie, Elena Dementieva, holds her trophy after wining the championship match of the 2009 WTA ASB Classic played in Auckland, New Zealand January 5- 11. In the final match, No. 4 ranked Dementieva defeated fellow Russian, No. 63 ranked Elena Vesnina.
Dementieva lived up to her No. 1 seeding, never dropping a set along the way. Her opponents Yung-Jan Chan, Marina Erakovic, Shahar Peer, Aravane Rezai, and finally Elena Vesnina didn’t really have a chance as Dementieva dismissed them right and left in orderly fashion.
This was a great warm-up tournament for the Australian Open which begins Jan 19. Yet Dementieva is not satisfied. She immediately went to the Medibank International being played January 12-18 in Sydney, Australia.
Dementieva is seeded 3rd in the Medibank International, and is already through to the quarterfinals. She will meet 6th seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland for a chance to move into the semifinal match.
