Kim Clijsters Kim Clijsters made it look easy today against Venus Williams and showed no mercy in a match that turned into a massacre. In just 58 minutes, Clijsters was raising her arms in triumph with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Williams didn’t seem to know what hit her.

Clijsters claimed an early break in the third game of the first set to take the lead, and closed out the set at 6-2. Williams struggled to keep the ball in play and won only nine points in the second set. Clijsters won 17 points in a row early in the second set to take a 4-love lead, and then closed it out from there with no trouble at 6-1.

It was Clijster’s 37th career singles title, her second of 2010 after her win in Brisbane in January and her third since returning to tennis following a short-retirement to get married and have a baby. She came out of retirement with a memorable win the 2009 US Open.

Clijsters will climb to a No. 10 ranking, a great ranking for the short time she has been out of retirement.
