Belgian countrywomen Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters are headed for a potential 4th round showdown. Both have advanced into the 3rd round, and one more win each will pit them against each other.
It would make a very interesting match, putting 8th seeded Kim against 17th seeded Justine. Both are playing in their 1st Wimbledon since coming out of retirement, and both are working on winning their first Wimbledon. They both made the semifinal in their last Wimbledon appearance, Kim in 2006 and Justine in 2007. Justine has made the final twice, but did not win either one.
Their head-to-head series is tied at 12-all. They met once before at Wimbledon, in 2006 in the semifinals, where Justine won in two sets, 6-4, 7-6(4) when Justine was ranked No. 2 and Kim ranked No. 3.
They’ve met three other times on grass, with Justine winning 2 of the three events.
It will make an very interesting match if they both win their next round. Kim will play No. 27 seeded Maria Kirilenko and Justine will play No. 12 seeded Nadia Petrova. So it is not a given that they will meet. But if they do, it is unfortunate that it is only a 4th round match. It would make a great final with one of them winning their first ever Wimbledon.
