No. 17 Marion Bartoli of France will be off the court for six weeks after suffering a calf tear during her match against Vesna Manasieva in the second round of the Australian Open. Bartoli, who did not drop a game in her opening match, lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 after a strong start.
âIt felt like an explosion inside my muscle when I pushed off at one point,â she said. âAfter that, it was very complicated because I couldnât use my right leg. I canât take a plane now because itâs too swollen. I have to stay here for three days. The doctors asked me how I had managed to play another hour and a half. But Iâm a competitor. I was up a set, itâs not easy to give up. It might not have been the best decision to take.â
Hopefully she will have a full recovery and be back on the court in good form.
