Dementieva, ranked No. 4, had smooth sailing through her first three rounds without dropping a set. She defeated No. 55 ranked Anne Keothavong of London, England, 6-1, 6-4 in round one. In round two, she defeated another featured cutie pie, No. 51 ranked fellow Russian, Maria Kirilenko, 6-1, 6-2. Round three brought Dementieva up against cutie pie, Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia, ranked No. 26. Dementieva won the match 6-2, 6-4.

Dementieva then ran into No. 3 ranked, Venus Williams, of the USA. Williams proved to be too tough, and Dementieva went down in defeat in two sets, 0-6, 1-6.

Venus Williams played No. 12 ranked Marion Bartoli in the Final. Bartoli won the championship match in a close 3-setter, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.

It is exciting following the action in these preliminary tournaments leading up to the US Open, which kicks off August 31 in Flushing Meadows, New York, USA. Only a few weeks to wait before the next Grand Slam action.
