Serena Williams photoSexy cutie pie, Serena Williams, went down hard in the opening round of the WTA Andalucia Tennis Experience played April 6-12, 2009 in Marbella, Spain. Her opponent saw through William’s game plan just as we can see through her skimpy blouse in this photo.

After making it to the Finals in the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami Florida, USA recently (where she lost to Victoria Azarenka 6-3, 1-6), Williams couldn’t make it through round one in Marbella. She should have made it more of a match since she was playing against No. 92. Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic was up to the task and sent Williams packing for a quick trip home.

Williams lost the first set 4-6, then bounced back to win the second set 6-3. After that it was almost as if she left the court. Zakopalova won the final set 6-1, leaving Williams and all of her fans to wonder what happened. That was not a world No. 1 performance.

It seems the No. 1 ranking on the women’s tour has not produced anyone who can really dominate for any extended period of time. Unlike the men’s tour, the No. 1 spot has been up for grabs, being handed back and forth most of last year and the start of this year. I can understand that the No. 1 player is not always going to win every tournament, but to lose in the first round really makes one wonder. Where is the spirit, where is the heart, where is the drive? Something seems to be missing on the women’s tour.
