Russian cutie pie, Elena Dementieva is through to the semifinals at Wimbledon after her win over 18th ranked fellow Russian, Nadia Petrova. This is Elena’s first appearance in the semifinals at Wimbledon. She had made it to the quarterfinals once before in nine tries.
Elena played a tough match. She came out strong, winning the first set 6-1. Petrova then took her to a tie-break in the 2nd set, winning the close tie-break 6-8. Elena then pulled out all her energy to win the final set 6-3.
Elena’s semifinal opponent will be a tough one, Venus Williams. Venus has not lost a set yet this tournament. Elena will have to play her best to make it through to the finals. Go Elena. You can do it!
