For a while, the match was pretty much going the way everyone expected.  Nadal won the first two sets 6-2, 6-3 as Melzer found out that Nadal hits harder than Djokovic, and the shots he was making against the Serb were suddenly missing.  Nadal also got up a break in the third set, and it looked like he would close it out when he got broken at love.  Melzer pushed it to a tiebreak, got up 2-0 with a mini-break and lost the next point on a huge shot that he just missed.

Then, it got a little weird with Nadal unable to hold his serve.  On match point, Melzer hit a few big shots and saved match point, then saved another with a drop shot.  But Melzer wasn’t able to fend off another match point and kept Nadal’s streak of no sets dropped intact.

In the end, Melzer couldn’t keep enough of his shots in play, and Nadal made a few great shots, including one hit from an overhead by Nadal to a overhead by Melzer to a drop volley by Nadal.

Nadal makes it to the final and must now meet the guy that beat him in the French last year.  Here’s to hoping both players play well.
