On Sunday, it rained.  And rained.  And rained some more.   Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga were left to playing tennis and tweeting to pass the time away.  Eventually, the match was called, and the spectators were given full refunds.

The players would have to return Monday.

Tennis Channel was scheduled to cover the finals early in the morning.  When the match got delayed, and then called, Tennis Channel stayed mum on the topic.  Reason?  They probably lacked the rights to show a rain-delayed final.  Rather than tell their audience this, they said nothing.  This was similar to what happened in the Tennis Masters Cup a few years ago when they only had rights to the doubles.  They didn’t apologize and say “We aren’t able to bring you the singles because Fox Sports Network has rights to them” despite being called the Tennis Channel.  They could have made it available in other fashion: ESPN3, TennisTv.com.  Nope, not that either.

In any case, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga took the first set, 6-3, but the match stayed even in the second set to a tiebreak which Murray won easily 7 points to 2.  The third set was close, but Murray won it 6-4.

This is the second time Murray has won Queen’s.  He won it last in 2009 against James Blake.  However, he lost early last year.  This is Andy Murray’s first title of the year.  Last year, Murray didn’t win his first title until Toronto.  In previous years, he had usually won 1-2 titles by this point, e.g. Doha or Rotterdam.

In the Gerry Weber Open, two Germans fought for the title.  Philipp Kohlschreiber won when his opponent Philipp Petzschner retired in the second set.

This week, there are two events: the AEGON International in Eastbourne and the Unicef OPEN in the Netherlands.  The top ranked players will rest/prepare this week.  This includes Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal.

Wimbledon starts the following week.
