In a match lasting nearly 3 hours, Murray won the first set 7-6 (9-7 in the tiebreak), but then got broken twice early on in the second set, and much like his Monfils match, Murray let that set go. The announcers predicted that Murray would try to rebound in the third set and at least keep it even. This is what happened as both players held serve until the tiebreak.
Murray got out to a quick mini-break lead, but then gave it up right away. He had a chance to get another lead when Fish hit a rally ball long, but since it wasn’t called and Murray didn’t stop the point, Fish ended up winning the point. Fish scooped out two dipping passers by Murray and won the third set, 7-5 in the tiebreak. In the point before, when Murray failed to win the point and gave up the mini-break, he launched a ball high that went into the crowd. The crowd began to boo. Alas, the match only went one point longer and Murray quickly exited the court.
Fish will now take on the winner of Djokovic-Roddick.
This is the third time Fish has beaten Murray this year, beating Murray at Miami and at Queen’s earlier this year.
