Bernard Tomic seemed to be continuing a disconcerting streak from last year.  Plays well in Australia.  Plays indifferently outside the country.  To be fair, last week, in Rotterdam, he was pitted against Grigor Dimitrov, who has been having a great year, moving into the top 40 with a semifinal appearance last week.  This week, Tomic had to face Martin Klizan who came out of nowhere to win a tournament in the European indoor circuit late last fall.

Tomic was in all sorts of trouble.  The two had split the first two sets, but Tomic was down a break in the third.  Tomic managed to work his way out of that and beat Klizan in a third set tiebreak.  Tomic faces Devvarman next round who upset Benoit Paire.  This should be a good chance for Tomic to go deep in a tournament.

Yesterday, Rafa-beater Lukas Rosol faced the surprise of Paris, Jerzy Janowicz. with Janowicz winning handily.  If Janowicz can win a match or two a tournament, he should easily stay in the top 40.  Goffin has been struggling this year after having a decent 2012.  He lost easily to Michael Llodra.
