The odds-on favorite to win London has to be Novak Djokovic. Unlike last year, where the brutal final between him and Nadal resulted in Djokovic getting hurt, and then not having much to give the rest of the year, Djokovic has been a lot fresher. Perhaps the sting of not winning any Olympic medal or not winning the US Open has fueled his motivation to win.
At one point in time, Tsonga used to beat Djokovic on a regular basis, but these days, Tsonga has had troubles beating anyone in the top ten. Djokovic held on to a close first set in a tiebreak he took command of early on, and then strolled in the second set with two breaks of serve.
Final score: 76, 63.
With this win, Djokovic effectively takes the lead in Group A. Although both he and Murray have a 1-0 record, Djokovic, so far, has lost fewer sets. This will matter if they tie. However, the two should play each other on Wednesday, to force one player to go up 2-0. Wednesday (and Thursday) are always the exciting matches because it pushes one player to 2-0.
Tuesday, Federer starts off against Tipsarevic. Tipsy, being the thoughtful guy he is, said he had some ideas for how to play Federer, a player he’s never beaten. The evening match features del Potro against Ferrer. Ferrer just came off his first Masters 1000 win on Sunday, so he’s had about two days to get ready, being the last player to reach London.
