Ivan Lendl was selected to be the person drawing random numbers out of the trophy to place the remaining 30 seeds. He hasn’t be in Australia in over a decade. He had been asked by Tony Roche, his former coach, to come and hit with Lleyton Hewitt.
In the top 1/16, Nadal and Feliciano Lopez are seeded to meet in the third round. In the second 1/16, Isner and Cilic are seeded to meet in the third round.
In the third 1/16, Youzhny and Llodra are seeded to meet. In the fourth 1/16, Nalbandian is seeded to meet Ferrer.
In the fifth 1/16, Soderling is seeded to meet Bellucci. In the sixth 1/16, Gulbis is seeded to meet Tsonga.
In the seventh 1/16, Melzer is seeded to meet Baghdatis. In the eight 1/16, Garcia-Lopez is seeded to meet Murray.
In the ninth 1/16, Berdych is seeded to meet Gasquet. In the tenth 1/16, Davydenko is seeded to meet Verdasco.

Federer starts off with Lukas Lacko who took Nadal to 3 sets at Doha, and may face either Lu or Gilles Simon in the second round.
Murray landed in Soderling’s quarter, so they could meet in the quarterfinals. They are in Nadal’s half. Juan Marin del Potro meets Dudi Sela in the first round. Nalbandian opens up with Lleyton Hewitt, which is a tough first round.
David Ferrer draws Jarkko Nieminen who is a tough veteran in the first round. Djokovic plays Granollers in the first round. Granollers beat Soderling last year in the first round of the Aussie Open.
